Fourth of July
We had an awesome 4th of July weekend!!
When we got home from work on Friday there was a huge package waiting on the porch for Sophie. What was it? A TOY KITCHEN!! She was very excited, as she’s been asking for one for a while, and I think that there was some confusion on her part as to what the occasion was, but she didn’t ask to many questions. We had a fish fry with the Carriers, eating about 13 trout that the men had provided for us. Sophie was very patient through the fish fry, but as soon as the Carriers were gone, she was ready to put that kitchen together. It took her long suffering Daddy 2 hours (until 10:30pm) to put it together, but it was worth it. OK, maybe Sophie wasn’t that patient during the process, as she began bathing her doll in the sink before it was completely assembled, but hey, she’s 3 years old, and it’s a toy kitchen.
Saturday, Molly, Sophie, Shad and I all went to the theater to see a ballet performance of The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling. The Ugly Duckling was fun and interesting, but The Emperor’s New Clothes was just strange. It was not narrated and there was no dialogue. Even those of us who knew the story had a hard time following it and and even harder time enjoying it, as it was pretty bizzare.
After the theater, I got bitten by the nesting bug and re did the girl’s room, to make room for the impending addition. I think that it looks pretty good– considering that two girls have to fit into a tinie tiny room.
The rest of the weekend, which lasted through Tuesday for us, was filled with playing, shopping, swimming and attending a number of tea parties in Sophie’s room. We went to Amazon Pool on Sunday and to the wading pool at University Park on Monday, both were great. The water was like bath water. We picked cherries on Monday. Considering that cherries grow on the tops of trees, Sophie picked a lot. She and I took turns holding down the branches while the other one picked the cherries.
Monday, we had a 4th of July celebration at the Stafford’s house, complete with fried chicken and potato salad. We set off fireworks and hung out.
For Tuesday, the actual 4th of July, we had a picnic on our lawn, set off fireworks at home and then went to Alton Baker Park for the big ones. The big fireworks display only lasted 15 minutes, but it was very impressive. Sophie has a difficult regulating her voice, so everyone in the park got a play by play of the whole thing, complete with descriptions and which colors were our favorites.
